On the road to enabling better medicine, Bigtec Labs ventured into the path of breath-based diagnostics. The idea of breath-based diagnostics finds its root in the traditional medical practices where in a diagnosis was provided based on the smell of exhaled breath of an individual. Biomarkers in breath are associated with various diseases that form a disease specific breath signature that reflect the underlying medical condition. These breath signatures are composed of volatile organic compounds whose compositions are distinctive for each disease and the screening of these VOCs open up a non-invasive platform for real time monitoring of disease activity. This chemical information of disease specific breath biomarkers promotes early detection and reinforces the treatment of disease with informed clinical decisions. It is a precise and easy to use diagnostic tool.In the quest to develop a sensor system to detect breath VOCs, Bigtec Labs entered into a collaboration with IIT Mumbai and entered the world of conducting polymer sensors.
Rigorous research & development and our subsequent expertise in this field led to the development of a solid state sensor system for the detection of explosives. BeagleZ, a handheld, battery operated, portable explosives trace and vapour detector is the off-shoot of our trailblazing VOC project with immense applications in national security.
